Springmate donated polyurethane foam picnic mattresses of the following sizes and quantities, worth 4,750 US dollars, to the evacuation centre for Rajvithi Hospital's staff at Rajvithi Hospital, one of the largest public hospitals in Thailand, on November 9, 2011:
Size 3' x 6.5' x 1" - 100 pieces
Size 3' x 6.5' x 2" - 150 pieces
According to Dr. Varunee Ji-narat, Director General of Rajvithi Hospital, the hospital then employed more than 4,000 staff and served around 5,000 in and out-patients daily. The number of patients increased dramatically during the Great Flood, since patients from public hospitals that were closed down because of the flood were transferred to Rajvithi for further treatment. All members of staff were therefore required to be on duty, even if they were themselves affected by the flood. The hospital thus decided to open an evacuation centre to accommodate the 350 members of staff who had already been made homeless by the flood crisis.
The 250 mattresses were the first of many that Springmate donated to flood refugees through its "Little Mattresses for Friends in Need" Project. For more information about the project, please visit:
